Tenants warned of DepositGuard fraud RSS feed
It has been brought to our attention that some members of the public have experienced fraudulent activity under the name of DepositGuard, a legitimate service offered by the Residential Landlords Association (RLA) for deposit protection with TDS.
We understand fake property adverts are being placed on property portals and potential tenants are being told they must make payment of a deposit to secure a viewing of the property. If you have been asked to transfer money into a bank account, please be vigilant.
TDS has reported the matter to the police and is doing everything it can to prevent any further instances. The security of the RLA and TDS websites has not been compromised in any way.
The scam operates through fraudulent use of DepositGuard branding.
The legitimate DepositGuard product can be access through the RLA at www.rla.org.uk/depositguard.
If you have any been personally affected, please report to Action Fraud at www.actionfraud.police.uk. Please do not hesitate to contact TDS or the RLA should you have any suspicions about the emails you have received.
